GEFCO celebrates 10 years of success in Slovenia and in the Adriatic region

16 November 2017

GEFCO, the global player in industrial logistics and European leader in automotive logistics, has established a subsidiary in Slovenia 10 years ago. Since 2007, the Slovenian company has developed to become one of the most reliable partners in logistics industry in the region. GEFCO expects a double-digit growth in the Adriatic region for next year.

Established in Slovenia in 2007, GEFCO is successfully operating on the national market, building on the experience and know-how acquired by GEFCO Group in 68 years of activity. In cooperation with its clients and suppliers, the company contributes to the development of the whole Adriatic region. Its service portfolio ranges from core freight services – simple road, rail, air, ocean transportations – to finished vehicle logistics and complex multimodal door-to-door solutions with cross-dock, customs and tax representation, reusable packaging services. Their expertise is constantly developing to meet the needs of manufacturers in the region.

An important milestone in the development of the company in the region was marked this year, when GEFCO announced it will be uniting its organisational structure in Slovenia and Croatia, opened in 2013, to improve its service portfolio and operational excellence in the region. The headquarters of the company in Koper will function as a central of the GEFCO Group for the Adriatic region.

Pierre-Jean Lorrain, Executive Vice President of GEFCO Western & Central Europe, Balkans, Middle East & Mediterranean, said: “10 years ago we decided to establish in Slovenia, acting on our ambitions to develop further in this region. Today we can say that this was a good move, as both Slovenia and Croatia are more than ever positioned as essential links in logistics for Central and Southern Europe, with great potential to develop this position further.”

Global company, regional focus, local benefit
The growth of the company in the Adriatic has been sustained, with a nearly doubled turnover in the last 5 years. Having a combined turnover of 22,1 million euro in 2016 in Slovenia and Croatia, GEFCO expects a double-digit growth of this figure in 2017.

Another achievement of the company in Adriatic region was the threshold of almost 75.000 vehicles transported in 2016, much of which were shipped through Luka Koper, making it one of the biggest and most important logistics partners of GEFCO in the region.

In the Adriatic region, GEFCO is currently operating up to 80 Managed Fleet trucks, fully provided by Slovenian & Croatia carriers and its target is to extend this number to 100 in the coming years.

“In the Adriatic, we aim to keep up with the current remarkable business development and growth. By 2020, we plan to expand in new business segments, like pharma logistics. The lean organisation in the Adriatic region will help us achieve these goals, and establish us as a recognized operator that offers high quality logistics services,” explains Olga Danyliuk, General Manager of GEFCO in Slovenia and Croatia.
