Volvo Construction Equipment AB is setting the bar high with regard to the quality and conformity of the management of its vehicles. Successfully tested against these criteria, GEFCO Baltic became the agreed supplier of the Swedish manufacturer in August 2013 and was chosen to manage the transportation of its machines to the Eurasia zone.

Challenge

Designing a door-to-door handling plan for the transport of construction equipment in Eastern Europe and Central Asia

Results

GEFCO Baltics is awarded the Volvo supplier approval. At the port of Klaipeda, where the and safety checks are carried out on the equipment, a 99% quality rate was recorded.

  • Overland pre-shipment using low loader vehicle carriers for transport from the plant to the ports or railway stations in the countries of manufacture
  • Handling of Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) operations
  • Customs clearance at the ports
  • Shipment security: partial dismantling and excess packaging to protect vehicles
  • Ro- Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off: vessel transporting vehicles, cars, semi-trailers) sea transport between departure and destination ports
  • Rail or road transport to the destination countries
  • Capillary distribution of equipment by road to the customer’s site
  • Provision of monitoring tools and regular issuing of performance indicators
