Creating value, respecting values
“In terms of sustainable development, joining the UN Global Compact is a strong sign of our commitment. We work with manufacturers to optimise their supply chains, improve performance and control environmental risks. This approach creates added value while respecting our values!”

A proactive policy to reduce its sites' environmental footprint

In 2010, GEFCO defined an environmental policy and set up an Environmental Management system. This targets better management of emissions generated by the group’s sites, the vehicle fleet and company cars.

GEFCO has taken several steps in this area and continuously measures the progress made:

  • Environmental performance indicators are published regularly
  • A global network of contacts measures the sites' energy consumption and waste production in real time
  • Training in eco-driving for truck drivers to reduce fuel consumption

Promoting multimodal transport solutions and green logistics

GEFCO helps its customers reduce the environmental impact of their supply chains. From logistics engineering to container management, GEFCO does everything it can to develop green logistics solutions and optimise transport flows throughout the global supply chain.

  • Upstream, optimising transport and logistics plans: the 150 people in GEFCO’s design offices, specialists in flow engineering, design transport plans that provide the best cost/quality/carbon ratio
  • Tailored logistics services, optimised transport flows: GEFCO develops various transport combinations to optimise its customers' supply chains and reduce the carbon footprint of their logistics flows
  • Innovative multimodal solutions: thanks to its extensive network, GEFCO can offer effective multimodal transport solutions. It is expanding its use of rail and maritime transport as alternatives to road. These now represent 25% of transport flows, compared with the European average in the sector of 17%
  • Optimising truck loads and routes: to limit CO² emissions, GEFCO always tries to increase its trucks' fill rates to reduce the number of vehicles on the road
