As a responsible company, GEFCO operates many initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of its activities.
Four convictions, four sustainable commitments
Sustainable development is a priority and a strategic focus for GEFCO. For both its customers and its partners, GEFCO aims to be a responsible group and has set four priorities:
- To be a socially responsible company: by promoting the involvement of all of its partners in a people-oriented management method
- To promote harmonious economic development: by always integrating the sustainable development policy of the customer or prospect into its sales process
- To control the environmental impact of its activity: by steadily increasing the proportion of non-road modes of transport
- To work with humanitarian and charitable operations: throughout the world, GEFCO supports actions that promote solidarity
Responsible management of the global logistics chain
Recognising the environmental impact of its activities and those of its subcontractors, GEFCO is seeking to measure and manage its overall environmental performance. The group’s ambition is to develop its activities within a stable ecological footprint.
Developing multimodal transport, favouring alternatives to roads, optimising the supply chain: at all levels, GEFCO tries to control the impact of its activities and to involve its partners in this environmentally responsible approach:
- For its customers: GEFCO constantly seeks to optimise logistics flows and to develop innovative transport solutions that are more environmentally friendly
- With its partners and subcontractors: GEFCO commits its partners to complying with the fundamental principles of sustainable development
Greenhouse gas emissions review
A responsible company, GEFCO pursues an active policy to reduce the impact of its transport and logistics activities on the environment. The aim of this policy is notably to achieve the ambitious objectives set concerning the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, in view of supporting the group’s customers in their efforts and meeting the demands of the regulations defined by the Grenelle Environnement forum. The GEFCO group is putting to use substantial human and financial resources and is increasing the number of initiatives it leads in order to significantly reduce the greenhouse gas emissions linked to its activities. In 2012, the group carried out a carbon inventory on all of its sites with the aim of improving its actions regarding the reduction of greenhouse gases.
Every year, GEFCO publishes performance indicators relating to:
- direct GHG emissions: energy consumption levels of buildings, mobile sources, truck fleets, service vehicles, etc.
- indirect GHG emissions: associated with the production of electricity
